COMMUNICATIONS INTERN: 02.05.07
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Assists with employee communications, including weekly online internal newsletter. Provides support to the corporate communications department, including file maintenance and archiving of corporate communications assets, media relations tasks, electronic and print communications activities, special events and other departmental projects.
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the corporate Director of Communications. The position has key interactions with the corporate ace reporters, communications liaisons and marketing staffs of all Kitchell companies.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS & SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- COMPLY with all of Kitchell’s personnel and procedural policies
- PRESENT a professional and efficient image in internal and external interactions
- MAINTAIN confidentiality of corporate matters
- EXERCISE considerable judgment and initiative
- USE tact and diplomacy in dealing with individuals and groups
- PROVIDE support to the Director of Communications in the overall accomplishment of her/his responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
- ASSISTS Communications Specialist with core editorial and technical duties, including:
- GATHER, EDIT and PUBLISH content for weekly internal newsletter
- MAINTAIN content on corporate Web site, intranet and various company portals
- SERVE as liaison for corporate-wide network of “ace reporters” (ENCOURAGE regular interaction and contributions; ASSIST in developing and delivering skill-building and confidence-building for untrained contributors)
- SUPPORT corporate-wide marketing liaisons (marketing coordinators, administrative assistants and secretaries) in applying InDesign corporate template to marketing fact sheets
- In conjunction with corporate-wide marketing liaisons, TRACK opportunities for publicity, DRAFT routine news releases, ROUTE for approvals and PUBLISH to Web site
- MONITOR external clipping service, CREATE and maintain electronic clip books, WRITE summaries of external articles; POST to Web site and internal newsletter
- PROOFREAD and EDIT print and online content for internal and external audiences
- ASSIST with PowerPoint presentations and updating of lobby marketing presentations
- ASSIST with organization and maintenance of project photo files and common graphics drive
- Occasionally PHOTOGRAPH employees and special events for internal communications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or similar field (or pursuing such)
- Ability to meet regular deadlines
- Flexibility in accepting new assignments
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Openness to learning and professional growth; interest in being exposed to various facets of corporate communications
SKILLS
- Excellent writing, grammar; meticulous proofreading skills and attention to detail
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with HTML (Preferably Dreamweaver, Contribute) and InDesign software
